The Importance of
Being Earnestg
Earnest
Written by Oscar Wilde
Directed by John Ribovich
Performed April 26 - May 19, 2001
The Nineteenth Century loved comic melodrama
and stories of dual personality. Oscar Wilde found a way to combine both in this comic masterpiece. An awful lot of Englishmen of the time, Wilde included, were "Jack in the country and Earnest in town." Wilde found a way to poke fun at these deceptions while producing a play that is whimsical without being
trivial, hilarious without being cruel.
